The Bottom Line

  • Accuracy, Transparency & Reputation

Tonic CBD’s mission is to provide high quality, effective CBD products infused with adaptogens using sustainable, regenerative farming. They are extremely transparent on their website about their commitment to sustainable farming, using organic methods, and providing transparency at each and every step. They have easily scannable NFC codes on their products which link to their third party tests. However, some of their CBD level variances are much higher than the acceptable 10%. Plus, not all batches are tested for contaminants.

  • Hemp Quality

The quality of Tonic’s hemp farming and manufacturing is apparent. They own their own sustainable farms and use regenerative, organic practices. All of their formulations are done by trained chemists. They test the raw ingredients and products for purity and potency.

  • Customer Experience

We received comprehensive support from customer service. They were easy to contact and answered our questions in full detail. The shopping and buying experience was made easy. Plus, the quiz on their website helps you decide what products are best suited to your needs.

  • Range of Products

Tonic offers a wide range of products including edibles, tinctures, vape products and pet products. They do not offer CBD isolate or capsules at this time. In addition, in each category of product types, there are a handful of options.

  • Price & Discounts

You can save money by subscribing, where your products are shipped monthly. However, there are no additional discounts for veterans or other groups of people. Their prices are slightly higher than average, falling in the $0.10 to $0.25 per mg of CBD range. Their tinctures are priced at $0.10 per mg of CBD which is about average in the field. To learn more about how we compare prices for CBD, refer to our pricing report.

About the Company

Tonic CBD is focused on conscious, sustainable CBD products. It was founded in 2017 by Brittany Carbone, who is both a personal trainer and health coach. She was seeking a natural way to address her anxiety and depression and used her knowledge of adaptogens, like ashwagandha, to create CBD adaptogenic blends. Her first steps involved researching the effect of CBD on the endocannabinoid system and its synergistic effects with adaptogens.

By the end of 2017, she had convinced her family to start a hemp farm at their residence in New York, now known as Tricolla Farms. It became one of the first licensed private hemp farms in New York. In 2018, Tonic CBD moved from a home kitchen based company, to a manufacturing facility. And by 2019, the team grew to include six women and Tonic CBD became Brittany’s full time career.

Tonic CBD partners with different non-profit organizations each month and donates a portion of their sales to the organization. The FAQ page on the Tonic CBD website is comprehensive. There are answers to questions about CBD in general, their products, refunds and shipping, and more. Plus, their product pages are filled with information about the type of CBD, ingredients, how to use the product, price, and third party lab reports.

To contact their customer care team, they provide a phone number, email address, and message box. They do not list their headquarters physical address on their website.

Tonic CBD third party tests all of their products. We assessed the lab report for the CBD Chill Tonic by scanning the NFC code on the product which brought us to the third party lab report. It showed there is 869.6mg of CBD per bottle, which is 69.6mg more than listed leading to a CBD variance of 9%. This variance is below the acceptable 10%. There is 0.1% THC in the product which is within the acceptable 0.3% and the sample proved to be negative for microbials. It was not tested for other contaminants.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of Tonic CBD may be summarized as a seed to sale operation based at Bardo Labs. This means, each step of the growing, manufacturing, and sales process is performed by one company that can control the quality and consistency of each step.

Their hemp farms, Ticolla Farms, are licensed and located in New York state where they practice sustainable, regenerative farming. Their farms are biodynamic and practice a no waste policy. This means they ensure they grow without chemicals or synthetic ingredients. All of their CBD is extracted via CO2 and often performed by hand to create full spectrum CBD. After extraction, the extracts are filtered and distilled to remove any contaminants or particulates. Each step has been researched and validated by experienced chemists.

Formulation is done by a team of chemists who understand how ingredients work together in our bodies, as well as how they can blend together to create high quality, stable products. Tonic CBD’s products are formulated with herbs including ashwagandha, lemon balm, passionflower and black seed oil.

Finally, each product batch is third party tested for purity and potency as well as for contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides or residual solvents. Lab reports are available on their website and every product has a scannable NFC tag that connects to an authenticating third party Certificate of Analysis.
