The Bottom Line

My review of Leafwell Botanicals is excellent. They publish the exact potency and purity for each product from their independent third party lab testing directly under the “Lab Results” link on the main website. When a customer purchases CBD from Leafwell Botanicals, they will know the quality of each product right from the start. They also carry a wider range of CBD potencies and extracts than comparable brands, both full and broad spectrum products that range from 25 mg up to 2750 mg.

Leafwell Botanicals offers CBD tinctures, topicals, softgels, pet tinctures, and newly launched edibles. Their prices range from $22.99 up to $67.99, which equals an overall average price point of $.07 per mg of CBD. Their tinctures and softgels are priced at a low $.03 per mg average, and their overall prices are lower than other comparable brands in the market. In addition to affordability, the consumer also benefits in terms of accessibility, given the variety of Leafwell Botanicals extract options, higher organic hemp quality, and outstanding customer service.

They offer free shipping with a $75 minimum purchase, or a flat shipping fee is applied at checkout. A 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee applies to all products. The accuracy variances for the potency of these Leafwell Botanicals products are below the 10% variance allowed. Their products also passed all standard purity testing for residuals, solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants. No synthetic ingredients are used in formulating the organic Leafwell Botanicals CBD products.

Pros: Cons:
  • Military and Veterans Discount
  • Accuracy in potency and purity testing
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp
  • $74.99 minimum purchase for free shipping
  • Product variety names based on potency can be confusing
  • No vegan softgels

About the Company

Established in 2013, Leafwell Botanicals is here “to help consumers bridge the mind-body gap” with CBD. This U.S. based company partners with career organic farmers to offer premium quality broad and full spectrum CBD derived from their phytocannabinoid rich, organic Colorado hemp.

Transparency

According to the company, they are serious about transparency. To achieve this goal, Leafwell Botanicals is a vertically integrated company, who control their hemp from seed to final sale. Every product batch is third party tested by multiple laboratories. Independent testing is a vital step for quality and safety control, and it ensures that the CBD and THC potency listed on the label matches the final contents of the product.

On the company’s main menu, customers can click the “Science” link to open the following window:

In an effort to facilitate complete company transparency, under this “Lab Results” link, a multi-tab taskbar will appear for easy customer access to all third party lab tests in every Leafwell Botanicals product category:

Accuracy

The test results were easy to match to the batch numbers on the labels, using the “Lab Results” link or by scanning the QR code on the label.

The lab report for my batch of their 50 mg full spectrum sea salt almonds had a 1.8% variance in CBD with 49.1 total mg. Their topical full spectrum lavender CBD cream was labeled at 1000 mg. The lab reports showed a 10% variance in CBD content at 1102 total mg.

Their newly rebranded 330 mg Well-Being+ full spectrum pet tincture tested at 335.6 total mg of CBD, or 8.3 mg per serving size of 1 ml, which represents a 4.87% variance.

The CBD products offered by Leafwell Botanicals all tested well under the legal 0.3% THC limit. All products checked for CBD accuracy were within the 10% variance allowed, and they passed all purity tests for contaminants.

Reputation

The co-founders of Leafwell Botanicals started their community outreach by helping shelter pets get adopted, and by 2017, they had partnered with more than 1200 animal rescues, according to the company.

Their team includes people passionate about health, wellness, and botanical science. Leafwell Botanicals has built a solid reputation as product innovators, and they pride themselves on introducing people and pets to CBD in a mindful and socially responsible manner.

Manufacturing Process

Leafwell Botanicals is a legal, authorized grower of premium Colorado hemp. All of the products are sourced from organic hemp farms that utilize sustainable agriculture practices, according to customer service. Currently, Leafwell Botanicals is actively pursuing their goal of becoming 100% Certified Organic.

All of their CBD products are manufactured in a GMP certified facility. Leafwell Botanicals uses a clean CO2 extraction method to safely remove cannabidiol from their organic, non-GMO hemp. They formulate each of their CBD products with easily digestible MCT oil as the carrier for maximum bioavailability.

The next step is independent third party CBD testing, which is an important quality and safety control measure utilized by Leafwell Botanicals to ensure that the labeled quantity of CBD and THC matches the contents. According to the company, they conduct thorough independent third party lab testing for all of their products and post the results online, for customers to view or download.

Range of Products

The broad and full spectrum CBD products by Leafwell Botanicals are offered in 3 varieties that refer to potency: Classic, Strong, and Extra Strong. They use CO2 extraction for all product formulations, and carry a wide range of CBD potencies, from 25 mg to 2750 mg with an average price of $.07 per mg of CBD.

Their product catalog includes topicals, tinctures, softgels, edibles, and pet tinctures. All of the Leafwell Botanicals products, both broad and full spectrum, contain far less than 0.3% THC.

CBD Topicals

These topical creams come in the Classic, Strong, or Extra Strong potencies as well, ranging from 500 to 2750 mg. Their CBD creams are oil based and contain all natural ingredients, including shea and mango butters for smooth application and easy absorption.

Suggested uses for all of the Leafwell Botanicals topical products include promoting a sense of relaxation, but we have not tested the products for their effects. These products can also be used to moisturize skin, due to the lightweight oils used during formulation, such as coconut MCT, Arnica, and Jojoba oils.

All topicals contain well under the 0.3% THC limit.

  • CBD Arnica Body Cream–Classic

This full or broad spectrum CBD topical is CO2 extracted and includes other natural ingredients, such as essential chamomile, lemon, and rosemary oils.

  • CBD Lavender Body Cream–Strong

This CO2 extracted topical cream is offered in both broad and full spectrum CBD options. Ingredients also include Arnica and Tea Tree oils and lavender, which has been proven to help promote relaxation and rest.

  • CBD Menthol Body Cream–Extra Strong

The main ingredients in this CO2 extracted full spectrum cream include menthol, peppermint, spearmint, and eucalyptus, and these work together to create a cooling sensation on skin upon application. This product is for external topical use only.

CBD Softgels

These softgels are only offered in the company’s Classic and Strong potencies. These broad and full spectrum softgels are CO2 extracted, and are advertised by the company as being a convenient delivery method for CBD administration. All their softgels contain well under the 0.3% THC limit, whether broad or full spectrum.

These softgels contain naturally occurring phytocannabinoids and terpenes, along with other natural ingredients. These do incorporate bovine gelatin, however, so they are not vegan at this time. They are formulated with organic MCT oil as the carrier for maximum bioavailability. The ‘Classic’ softgels are 25 mg each, while the ‘Strong’ softgels are not quite double the potency at 40 mg each. Currently, there is not an ‘Extra Strong’ choice in this product category.

Suggested uses by the company include supporting a good night’s rest, recovering post-workout, and promoting general wellness, but we have not tested this. These softgels are recommended for oral use by the company.

Buying Experience

The ordering process was effortless on the Leafwell Botanicals website. There is an easy way to navigate to the main menu with a “Shop” link that takes you to the entire catalog, including all of the company’s wide variety of full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD products. There are clearly labeled sections, such as support, shipping, and FAQs.

Their tinctures, softgels, and topicals are offered in 3 proprietary varieties with different potency levels, labeled as “Classic,” “Strong,” and “Extra Strong” formulations. With most products already offered in both full or broad spectrum extract options, however, these additional company variety names based on potency can create some confusion for new consumers of the brand.

Each product page provides comprehensive product information, as well as suggested uses and serving sizes. All of the third party lab results available for the Leafwell Botanicals CBD product catalog are also conveniently posted under a comprehensive hub on the bottom of every page online:

If questions arise, customer service is available via email, phone, or online chat. They were contacted through the floating chat widget on the main website regarding edible CBD products and discounts. A member of their team jumped on the chat right away and answered specific questions, reporting that CBD edible products by Leafwell Botanicals are now available for sale to consumers, and a veteran discount is offered, as noted above:

First Class shipping is free on orders exceeding $74.99, and Priority shipping is free on all orders over $175. Otherwise, the company offers two convenient shipping methods, as noted in the online “Shipping Policy” section, which also lists the standard estimated shipping and processing times:

Priority mail will ship the same day if order is placed before 12 p.m. MT, as the company is headquartered in Colorado. A shipping confirmation email with a tracking number was received. The order arrived in a plain brown, discreet box within 5 business days of placing it online. The products received were securely packed and the edibles were wrapped separately.

Products Reviewed

Orange CBD Tincture– Full Spectrum, 500 mg, 30 ml

This CO2 extracted, full spectrum tincture had a strong orange scent upon opening, and it had a very pale yellow color. The label explains that 1 full dropper equals 1 ml of CBD, which is the company recommended serving size, and measuring marks are distinctly visible. This tincture tasted like fresh fruit, and the MCT oil formulation provided easy digestibility.

Lemon, Lime, Turmeric CBD Tincture– Full Spectrum, 1000 mg, 30 ml

This full spectrum tincture is CO2 extracted and formulated with MCT oil for easy digestion. It has a thicker viscosity than other tinctures and is light yellow in color. Suggested serving size by the company is 1 full dropper, which equals a precise 1 ml dose. They have included a dropper with distinct measuring marks for easier dosing. The flavor is savory, with a slight citrus aftertaste.

Well-Being+ CBD Tincture for Small Pets– Full Spectrum, 330 mg, 30 ml

This oral or sublingual tincture is CO2 extracted, before being blended with organic MCT oil. It is translucent in color and has a typical oil viscosity, but was not messy. Their rebranded 330 mg Well-Being+ full spectrum pet tincture tested at 335.6 total mg of CBD, or 8.3 mg per serving size of 1 ml, which represents a 4.87% variance. It had no detectable THC, and passed all purity testing. There are visible measuring marks on the dropper.

Well-Being+ CBD Tincture for Medium Pets– Full Spectrum, 1000 mg, 30 ml

This CO2 extracted, full spectrum tincture for medium sized pets is almost clear in color and had a somewhat thin viscosity, but it did not drip down the dropper. There are clearly visible marks for precise dosing. The recommended serving size is 1 ml, or 1 full dropper.

CBD Peanut Butter with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, 750 mg, 25 mg per Tbsp, 16 oz

This CO2 extracted CBD edible product has a smooth, creamy texture and a traditional light brown color, exactly like a typical peanut butter. There are 100 calories and 4 g of protein per serving size of 1 Tablespoon, which contains approximately 25 mg of full spectrum CBD. No detectable amount of THC was found.

The flavor is distinctly hearty and tastes of fresh, oven roasted peanuts. It spreads easily on bread and is a good consistency for dipping, as well. This Leafwell Botanicals edible tastes like a typical all natural nut butter. Slight mixing may be required before use, if oil separation occurs. After one thorough mixing of the product for initial use, the product’s firm texture remained.

CBD Almonds with Sea Salt, 150 mg, 50 mg each pack, 3 count

This full spectrum CBD edible is CO2 extracted and dusted with a light sprinkling of sea salt that is not overpowering. There are 160 calories and 6 g of protein per serving size of 24 almonds. The lab report for my batch of their 50 mg full spectrum sea salt almonds had a small 1.8% variance in CBD with 49.1 total mg. This product tested well under the legal 0.3% THC limit, and it passed all purity tests for contaminants. These have a non-greasy, oven roasted flavor, and maintain a fresh, crunchy texture in every bite.

CBD Classic Softgels– Full Spectrum, 750 mg, 25 mg each, 30 count

These softgels undergo a CO2 extraction process before formulation with organic MCT oil. These are medium sized and have a serving size of 1 softgel. This Leafwell Botanicals oral product is full spectrum and light amber in color with a smooth texture that allowed for easy swallowing. They have a traditional softgel consistency, and lack any grassy or herbal aftertaste. Fatty acids Omega 3, 6, and 9 are additional ingredients and allow maximum absorption of CBD by the body.

CBD Classic Arnica Body Cream– Full Spectrum, 500 mg, 1.7 fl oz

This CO2 extracted cream has a base composed of lightweight oils that helps it to apply smoothly, and it moisturizes skin without leaving heavy residues or greasiness. The shea and jojoba butters in this full spectrum topical formulation help it to absorb quickly into skin, delivering targeted relief. It is white in color and has a firm, waxy texture that is similar to a balm in appearance. This cream has a high viscosity and an opaque appearance.

CBD Strong Lavender Body Cream– Full Spectrum, 1000 mg, 1.7 fl oz

This cream has a similar base of lightweight oils, but the added menthol and mint extracts provide a nice scent and cooling relief to sore muscles, as suggested by the company. This full spectrum topical formulation absorbs quickly into skin. It moisturizes by quickly penetrating the skin with smooth application.

This cream has a slight yellow color and also has a firm texture. It is softer and more translucent in color than the Arnica cream, though, due to the menthol and other natural ingredients. The lab reports for this product showed a 10% variance in CBD content, with 1102 total mg. It was well under the 0.3% THC limit, and passed all purity tests for solvents, pesticides, and other contaminants.
